About Lance Martin I have spent my entire adult life as a professional musician. My work has been in recording studios, clubs, and churches, on television or video, and concerts all over the world, as an electric bassist, including the fretless bass. I humbly owe my continuing success and professional survival to an excellent formal education, earning a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Texas, along with a thorough "street" education, and a deep faith in Jesus Christ as my guide. I not only sight-read notation, changes, and Nashville numbers, I can also play quite well purely by ear. I do not consider myself an expert in any one style, but I have studied and extensively performed rock, r&b, country, jazz, contemporary Christian, blues, and many sub-styles within these styles. To many I am known for playing true to whatever style I'm hired to play. Much of my work in Nashville has been as a studio bassist, and sometimes as a producer. This also includes work done in my own "Boogie House Music" project studio, powered by Sonar. I was the co-producer and bassist for Cakewalk's "Loops of Hazard", Sony's (Sonic Foundry) "Rhythm & Twang" loops. I also have an instructional video, Understanding the Nashville Number System, newly re-released on DVD and available from Texas Music Video, Mel Bay, or email me through this site. I have taught private lessons on many occasions over the years, including work as a full-time music faculty member at South Plains College in Levelland, TX for a couple years. And I worked, for several years, as a part-time music therapist at an institution for the mentally retarded during my college days. There are numerous people with whom I've performed live or in the studio. Many are talented but unknown artists or singer/songwriters, but some of the more famous people include (alphabetically): Jim Ed Brown, John Conlee, Dave & Sugar, "Little" Jimmy Dickens, Nokie Edwards (Ventures), Vern Gosdin, Jack Green, Tom T. Hall, Tommy Jennings, the Lynn's, Marty Nystrom (New Song), Jeannie Pruett, Lulu Roman, Johnny Russell, Jeannie Sealy, Lynn De Shazo, Jeanne Sheppard, Red Stewart, Hank Thompson, Shania Twain, USAF Band, Shelly West, Michelle Wright Janie Fricke, TG Sheppard and Doug Stone. Some sites list equipment ad nauseam. I will simply say that my equipment is among the best available, much of it not found in most music stores. I have numerous basses, four of which were made by Sadowsky, the Fender Custom shop, Jerry Jones, and Godin. For concerts I usually use Shure E-5 "in-ear" buds with a SansAmp, and/or a customized Eden amp rig. For studio work I have mic-pre's by API, Neve, Groove Tube, and Mo West, eq's by API, Groove Tube, BBE, and TC Electronics, several types of quality tube and/or optic compressors (ADL, Demeter, Aphex, Rolls, etc.), and numerous bass and/or guitar effects pedals and processors. This is just a partial list, with many pieces professionally customized for my needs. I endorse, and use, SIT strings, Rolls electronics, Nady electronics, Sabine tuners, Mi-Pro wireless units, and custom quad cords by Spectraflex. *Animation and " BoogieHouseMusic.com" logo created by Troy Klontz. |
